Category: Network Management
Description: Defines NMS Communications enterprise trap definitions for system-wide fault and event notification.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NMSTRAP-MIB?
NMSTRAP-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from NMS Communications that defines enterprise SNMP trap (notification) types used for system-wide fault and event notification across the vendor's product line. Rather than exposing pollable status objects, it defines the structure and variable bindings for asynchronous traps that NMS devices send when fault or state-change events occur. It is used in monitoring primarily as an event/alerting mechanism, enabling a management station to receive real-time notification of hardware faults, software errors, or other significant events without needing to poll. As a trap-definition module it typically depends on the vendor's other product MIBs (such as NMS510-MIB or NMS-WLAN-MIB) for the specific object values carried in the trap payloads. It is deployed wherever NMS Communications devices are integrated into a centralized fault-management system for event-driven alerting. Engineers can download the NMSTRAP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMSTRAP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NMS Communications network device
Monitoring Examples
Because this MIB defines only trap/notification types rather than a table of pollable runtime objects, there is no polling scenario to describe; instead, a management station configured as a trap receiver would capture and log each enterprise trap as it is emitted by an NMS device experiencing a fault or notable event. The absence of sample runtime objects in the source data is consistent with its role as a trap-definition-only module.
What Can Be Monitored
- fault/error notification traps
- system-wide event alerts
