Category: Network Management

Description: Defines multi-service chassis resource configuration and slot management objects.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is MSCR-MIB?

MSCR-MIB defines managed objects for a multi-service chassis resource (MSCR) system, covering configuration and management of switch modules (MS) and their ports within a modular chassis, under the enterprise naming convention seen in the sample objects. It belongs to the modular switch/chassis management technology area. It exposes both "running" and "permanent" (saved) configuration state for chassis security level, save/clear operations, per-port tables, and per-module (MS) tables along with maximum-count/table-size limits. Its role centers on monitoring the software-configuration status of chassis modules and ports — security level settings, save/clear state, and module/port inventory counts — rather than raw environmental hardware sensors. It appears to depend on a broader chassis MIB framework (indicated by adjacent nbSwitchG1/nbSwitchG1Il objects), and is deployed on modular multi-service switch chassis where multiple switch modules are managed as chassis resources. Engineers can download the MSCR-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MSCR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • multi-service modular switch chassis

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll nbMacScrRunMsTable and nbMacScrRunPortsTable to see the currently running set of switch modules and ports configured in the chassis, cross-checking nbMacScrRunMsMaxNum against the actual module count to detect a module that failed to register. Comparing nbMacScrRunSecurityLevel against nbMacScrPermSecurityLevel would reveal whether a running security-level change has been saved to permanent configuration (via nbMacScrRunSaveMS) or would be lost on reload. The nbMacScrRunClearMS/nbMacScrPermClearMS objects indicate whether a clear/reset operation is pending on the running versus saved configuration.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chassis security level (running vs. permanent)
  • switch module (MS) inventory and count
  • per-port configuration table
  • save/clear configuration operation status
  • table size limits
