Description: Manages NMS Communications IP routing table entries, static routes, and routing protocol summary state.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NMS-ROUTING-MIB?

NMS-ROUTING-MIB is a vendor-specific MIB from NMS Communications that manages IP routing information on its network devices, including the routing table, static route entries, and summary state of routing protocols in use. It exposes configuration data (static routes) as well as operational data (active route counts and protocol summaries). Its monitoring value lies in confirming the software-level routing state of the device is correct and stable, letting administrators detect missing routes, unexpected route count changes, or routing protocol instability that could cause traffic black-holing. It is a proprietary MIB but conceptually parallels the standard IP-FORWARD-MIB/RFC 4292 routing table structure. It is typically deployed on NMS Communications gateway or router-capable equipment where IP routing correctness needs to be monitored alongside voice/media services. Engineers can download the NMS-ROUTING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-ROUTING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • nms Co., Ltd. router/gateway device (IP routing table, vendor unidentified)

Monitoring Examples

The module description references a count of running static routes, implying an object that tracks the number of currently active static route entries alongside a routing table listing destination, next-hop, and metric information. An administrator would poll this static route count to confirm it matches the expected configuration, and a discrepancy would reveal a route that failed to install or was unexpectedly removed. No detailed table/object names were captured beyond this description.

What Can Be Monitored

  • static route count
  • routing table entries
  • next-hop and metric per route
  • routing protocol summary state
