Category: Network Management

Description: Defines event notification objects and alarm severity levels for Net Insight Nimbra fault management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NETI-EVENT-MIB?

NETI-EVENT-MIB is a Net Insight MIB module for the Nimbra DTM (Dynamic synchronous Transfer Mode) transport network family, providing a generic event and alarm reporting mechanism shared across Net Insight nodes. It exposes an event table logging discrete occurrences sent as SNMP notifications and an alarm table holding currently active alarm conditions, along with alarm type, severity, and cause codes. It is squarely a fault-management MIB: eventSeverity, eventAlarmType, and eventCause let an administrator monitor active fault conditions on the node, while eventSequenceCounter and eventLogLastChangedTime let a management station detect and recover any notifications it missed, making this the general health/status reporting mechanism for the whole Nimbra platform. It is explicitly designed as a shared notification framework that other Net Insight MIBs (such as NETI-ITS-MIB) depend on to report their own state changes as events and alarms. It is deployed in broadcast and telecom transport networks running Net Insight Nimbra DTM equipment for centralized fault and alarm monitoring, where NETI-EVENT-MIB SNMP monitoring provides the shared event/alarm backbone across the Nimbra platform.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETI-EVENT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Net Insight Nimbra DTM transport network node

Monitoring Examples

eventTable/eventEntry, indexed by eventIndex, holds eventObject, eventObjectName, eventType, eventSeverity, eventCause, and eventText for each logged occurrence, while eventSequenceCounter and eventLogLastChangedTime let an NMS detect gaps if it missed one or more SNMP trap notifications. An administrator scanning the alarm table for eventSeverity at a critical level tied to a specific eventObjectName can immediately identify which underlying Nimbra service or interface has degraded. Correlating eventCause across multiple entries for the same object also helps distinguish a transient blip from a persistent fault.

What Can Be Monitored

  • active alarm severity
  • alarm/event cause code
  • event log sequence number
  • event type
  • affected object name
  • event/alarm timestamp
