What Is NETAL-SMI?

NETAL-SMI is the Structure of Management Information (SMI) module that establishes the top-level enterprise OID namespace for Network Alchemy, a vendor whose IP-routing/security appliance line was later absorbed into Nokia's IP-series (IPSO) platform. It does not itself define runtime data objects; instead it registers the OID arc under which other Network Alchemy-derived MIBs place their actual object and trap definitions. As a purely structural module it has no direct monitoring objects of its own for hardware or software status — any uptime, environmental, or performance data would live in sibling MIBs registered beneath this namespace. It depends on the standard SNMPv2-SMI conventions for OID registration and provides the enterprise root that those dependent MIBs reference. It would typically appear in the MIB tree of Network Alchemy/Nokia IP-series network appliances purely as a namespace anchor, loaded alongside the vendor's functional MIB modules. Any NETAL-SMI OID encountered during an SNMP walk simply anchors this enterprise sub-tree rather than pointing at a live-data object.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NETAL-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Network Alchemy / Nokia IP-series network appliances
  • vendor-specific SMI root module, not a monitorable device type itself

Monitoring Examples

This module defines only the enterprise OID registration point and contains no runtime monitoring objects of its own, so there is no polling scenario to describe here; any device status data would be found in other Network Alchemy MIBs registered under this OID arc.
