Category: Products/Registration

Description: Provides NBase experimental enterprise MIB objects for switch management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NBASE-EXP-MIB?

NBASE-EXP-MIB is an NBase (NBase-Xyplex) enterprise MIB providing experimental/extended management objects for its switch product line, focused on per-port hardware and software identification and firmware management. It exposes a port table listing, for each switch port, hardware type, software type, hardware version, microcode version, software version, and status, along with an object for specifying a TFTP filename for software upgrades. It is directly aimed at monitoring hardware and software status — administrators use it to confirm which firmware/microcode version is running on each port module, whether a port's hardware is recognized and healthy (nbsExpPortTblStatus), and to manage firmware upload via TFTP. Being an enterprise MIB it builds on standard SNMP conventions but has no notable dependency on other specific IETF MIBs beyond the base framework. It is typically deployed in legacy NBase-Xyplex switch installations where operators need visibility into mixed hardware/firmware revisions across ports and manage firmware upgrades centrally. Engineers can download the NBASE-EXP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NBASE-EXP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NBase-Xyplex / NBase Communications managed switch

Monitoring Examples

An admin would walk nbsExpPortTable/nbsExpPortEntry (up to nbsExpPortMaxNum entries) keyed by nbsExpPortTblPortNumber to read nbsExpPortTblHwVersion, nbsExpPortTblMCodeVrsn, and nbsExpPortTblSwVersion for each port, confirming all ports run a consistent, expected firmware set. A port reporting nbsExpPortTblStatus abnormal or a software version mismatch versus its peers would flag a module that failed a firmware upgrade or has faulty hardware; nbsExpPortTftpSwFileName shows which image is staged for the next TFTP-based update.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-port hardware type/version
  • per-port software/microcode version
  • per-port operational status
  • staged TFTP firmware filename
  • total port count
