This object reports a textual description of the microcode version running on the expansion port module (its DESCRIPTION text is a copy of the hardware-version wording, but its name and position alongside nbsExpPortTblSwVersion indicate it covers microcode specifically). An admin checks it to confirm whether the low-level microcode matches the version required by a newer software load before performing an upgrade. A mismatch here relative to expected values would explain unexpected module behavior after an OS update.
