Description: Monitors Milestone XProtect video recorder health, storage, and camera status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MILESTONESYS-RECORDER-MIB?
MILESTONESYS-RECORDER-MIB is a Milestone Systems enterprise MIB for monitoring XProtect video recording server health within a video management system (VMS) deployment. It exposes a trap-oriented structure for recording server events, including a table of recording server instances identified by index and described via trap text. Its monitoring emphasis is on software/service status for the video surveillance workload: it lets an administrator detect recording server faults, storage issues, or camera-related problems as they are reported through recording server notifications, rather than exposing granular performance counters directly. It is a Milestone-specific enterprise MIB with no stated dependency on IETF standard MIBs, structured around its own recordingServers and surveillance object groups. It is deployed in video surveillance environments running Milestone XProtect recording servers to give a centralized NMS visibility into recorder health alongside standard IT monitoring. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the MILESTONESYS-RECORDER-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MILESTONESYS-RECORDER-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Milestone XProtect video recording server
Monitoring Examples
An NMS subscribes to traps under recordingServerNotificationPrefix and, on receipt, reads rsTrapDescr from the trap payload to determine the nature of the recording server event (e.g., a storage or camera fault). The rsTable (rsInstance, keyed by rsIndex) lets an operator enumerate configured recording server instances to confirm which specific recorder generated the alert, correlating it with camera or storage health issues in the surveillance deployment.
What Can Be Monitored
- recording server fault/event notifications
- recording server instance identification
- recorder storage/camera status (via traps)
