What Is PDN-IFEXT-MIB?
This is a Paradyne Corporation enterprise MIB that extends the standard IETF IF-MIB with additional interface attributes specific to Paradyne devices, including octet-counter rollover tracking, unavailable-second (UAS) totals, and loopback test configuration. It exposes per-interface extension data such as input/output octet rollover counts to handle 32-bit counter wraparound, total unavailable seconds, and a test-configuration table with near-end/far-end timer settings for loopback testing. It is used to monitor performance/fault status of interfaces at a finer granularity than base IF-MIB, since tracking unavailable seconds reveals service-affecting outages on a circuit while octet rollover counters let long-term throughput trending survive counter wraparound on high-speed links. It has an explicit, stated dependency on the standard IETF IF-MIB, whose ifTable entries it extends via ifIndex-keyed extension tables. It is typically deployed on Paradyne DSL/access transport devices where accurate long-term throughput and availability trending is required for SLA reporting. Engineers can download the PDN-IFEXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-IFEXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Paradyne Corporation DSL/access transport device
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll pdnIfExtTable (via pdnIfExtEntry, keyed by pdnIfExtIndex) to read pdnIfExtInOctetRollovers and pdnIfExtOutOctetRollovers alongside the base ifInOctets/ifOutOctets to compute true throughput on a wrapping 32-bit counter interface. A climbing pdnIfExtTotalUASs value would reveal cumulative unavailable-seconds on a circuit, directly impacting SLA compliance reporting. In pdnIfExtTestConfigTable, checking pdnIfExtTestConfigNearTimer and pdnIfExtTestConfigFarTimer for a given pdnIfExtTestConfigIfIndex would confirm loopback test timers are configured as expected, making this extension essential for accurate throughput and availability trending on Paradyne interfaces.
What Can Be Monitored
- interface octet counter rollovers
- total unavailable seconds (UAS)
- loopback test near/far timer configuration
- per-interface throughput trending beyond IF-MIB
