Description: Manages MTS Allstream network equipment configuration and service status.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MTSALLSTREAM-MIB?
MTSALLSTREAM-MIB is a carrier-specific MIB used by MTS Allstream (a Canadian telecommunications carrier) to define service notifications for its managed network equipment. It exposes a CIC (Circuit Identification Code) event structure carrying event ID, node identifier, event message text, and severity, delivered as SNMP notifications rather than polled counters. This MIB is fundamentally a fault/event-notification MIB: it lets an operations center monitor real-time fault and status events (via allstreamNotifications) surfaced from carrier equipment, using severity and trap-reason fields to triage which network element and condition triggered an alert. It depends on the standard SNMP notification framework (SNMPv2-CONF/TC conventions) for its trap and conformance structure. It is deployed within MTS Allstream's carrier network operations, generating alerts from managed customer-facing or backbone equipment into the carrier's NOC systems, making the MTSALLSTREAM-MIB MIB central to Allstream's fault-monitoring infrastructure.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MTSALLSTREAM-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- MTS Allstream carrier network equipment
Monitoring Examples
A NOC operator would receive an allstreamNotifications trap carrying cicEventID, cicNode, and cicEventMessage, then check cicEventSeverity to prioritize response and cicEventTrapReason to understand the specific fault condition. A burst of high-severity events from the same cicNode would indicate a specific network element is experiencing a sustained fault requiring escalation. allstreamCICEventEntities would be referenced to correlate which physical or logical entities on the node are affected.
What Can Be Monitored
- CIC event ID
- originating node
- event message text
- event severity
- trap reason
