Category: Network Management
Description: Manages SNMP trap destination configuration, throttle rates, and trap enable/disable settings on Paradyne xDSL access devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is PDN-TRAPMGR-MIB?
PDN-TRAPMGR-MIB is a Paradyne enterprise MIB for xDSL access devices (such as GranDSLAM/Hotwire-style DSL access multiplexers), managing SNMP trap destination configuration. It defines a trap manager table listing destination IP addresses, subnet masks, and circuit/sub-circuit identifiers, along with counts of registered trap receivers. It is not itself a hardware sensor MIB, but it underlies fault/status monitoring infrastructure: the current-versus-maximum trap manager count reflects the device's notification capacity, and correct destination configuration determines whether hardware/software fault traps (link down, power issues, etc.) actually reach an NMS. It works alongside the standard SNMPv1/v2 trap mechanism and other Paradyne enterprise MIBs that generate the traps it routes. It would be deployed on Paradyne/Zhone xDSL access equipment in telco central offices or points of presence, where the PDN-TRAPMGR-MIB MIB governs whether fault traps actually reach the NMS.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in PDN-TRAPMGR-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Paradyne xDSL access device
- DSL access multiplexer (DSLAM)
Monitoring Examples
An admin polls devTrapMgrTable and pdnDevTrapMgrTable entries such as devTrapMgrIpAddress, pdnDevTrapMgrDestAddress, and pdnDevTrapMgrSubnetMask to verify which NMS stations are registered as trap destinations. Comparing devTrapMgrCurrentNumber against devTrapMgrMaxNumber shows whether the trap manager table is near capacity, which would cause new trap destinations to fail to register. This lets an operator confirm fault notifications are reaching all intended monitoring stations.
What Can Be Monitored
- configured trap destination addresses
- trap destination subnet masks
- circuit/sub-circuit identifiers
- current vs. max trap manager entries
