Category: Switch Management
Description: Monitors system CPU, memory utilization, and reboot information on Cisco ME1200 switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ME1200-SYSUTIL-MIB?
This is a Cisco private MIB for the ME1200 Metro Ethernet switch providing system utilization and capability data, similar in spirit to a vendor system-health MIB. It exposes platform capability flags (warm reboot, POST, ZTP, stack firmware check support), configurable monitoring thresholds and modes for memory and CPU load, and real-time CPU load averages over multiple intervals (100ms, 1s, 10s, 1min, 5min). This MIB is explicitly a hardware/software status monitoring tool: CPU load averages across several time windows let an operator distinguish a brief spike from sustained high load, and the memory pool notification threshold configuration governs when the switch itself will alert on memory pressure. It is a self-contained Cisco private MIB, typically used alongside ME1200-LLDP-MIB and ME1200-HQOS-MIB for full platform visibility rather than any IETF standard. It is deployed on ME1200 switches in metro access deployments where operators need to catch CPU or memory exhaustion before it causes service-affecting instability. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the ME1200-SYSUTIL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ME1200-SYSUTIL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco ME1200 Metro Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An operator would poll me1200SysutilStatusCpuLoadAverage1min and me1200SysutilStatusCpuLoadAverage5min to distinguish a transient CPU spike (visible only in the 100msec/1sec averages) from sustained high load requiring investigation. me1200SysutilConfigSystemMemoryPoolNotifThreshold would be tuned so the switch proactively reports memory pressure before an out-of-memory condition affects forwarding. me1200SysutilCapabilitiesWarmRebootSupported and PostSupported flags would be checked to confirm platform capabilities before scheduling a maintenance reboot.
What Can Be Monitored
- CPU load average (100ms/1s/10s/1min/5min)
- memory pool utilization notification threshold
- warm reboot and POST support
- CPU load monitoring mode/interval configuration
