Description: Manages syslog message collection and server settings on Cisco ME1200 switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is ME1200-SYSLOG-MIB?
ME1200-SYSLOG-MIB is a Cisco proprietary module for the ME1200 Metro Ethernet switch family, managing syslog message collection, server configuration, and local message history. It exposes syslog server mode/address/level configuration along with status and control history tables recording individual log messages, their severity level, timestamp, and text, indexed per switch in a stack. Its monitoring value is primarily software/event status: administrators can confirm the syslog server is correctly configured and reachable, and review the device's own historical log messages to detect recurring errors, warnings, or operational events. It builds on the standard syslog protocol/message-severity model (RFC 5424-style levels) for its message classification. It is typically deployed on Cisco ME1200 switches in metro Ethernet networks where centralized logging and local log review are both required for operational visibility. Engineers can download the ME1200-SYSLOG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ME1200-SYSLOG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Cisco ME1200 Metro Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll me1200SyslogConfigServerMode/Address/Level to confirm the syslog server destination is correctly configured, then review me1200SyslogStatusHistoryTable/Entry for me1200SyslogStatusHistoryMsgLevel and me1200SyslogStatusHistoryMsgText to see recent log messages per switch unit. A cluster of high-severity me1200SyslogStatusHistoryMsgLevel entries around the same me1200SyslogStatusHistoryMsgTimeStamp would reveal a correlated fault event across the stack worth investigating.
What Can Be Monitored
- syslog server configuration (mode/address/level)
- local log message history
- log message severity level
- log message timestamp and text
- per-switch-unit log identification
