All MIBs › NMS-AUTHENTICATION-TRAP
Category: Network Management
Description: Defines SNMP authentication failure trap notifications for NMS Communications networking equipment.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is NMS-AUTHENTICATION-TRAP?
NMS-AUTHENTICATION-TRAP is a small notification-only MIB from NMS Communications defining the SNMP authentication-failure trap and its variable bindings for NMS networking equipment. Rather than exposing polled data tables, it standardizes the fault/security-event category: it defines what information accompanies an authentication trap so an SNMP manager can react when an unauthorized or failed SNMP access attempt occurs against the device. Its monitoring value is squarely in the faults/traps category, alerting operators in real time to failed authentication attempts, which can indicate a misconfigured monitoring tool or a security probing/attack attempt against the device, rather than reporting on device hardware/software resource status. It relies on the standard SNMPv2 trap mechanism and notification conventions as its dependency rather than device-specific status MIBs. It is deployed on NMS Communications networking equipment, such as media/signaling gateways, wherever real-time alerting on unauthorized SNMP access attempts is required. Engineers can download the NMS-AUTHENTICATION-TRAP file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NMS-AUTHENTICATION-TRAP. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NMS Communications networking/gateway equipment
Monitoring Examples
With no runtime data objects or sample objects provided, this module cannot be shown polling any table; instead an NMS would simply subscribe to receive the authentication-failure trap and react whenever the device emits one, using the accompanying variable bindings defined in the trap to identify the source of the failed authentication attempt.
