Description: LaserJet5Si-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LaserJet5Si-MIB?

LaserJet5Si-MIB is a Hewlett-Packard printer-specific enterprise MIB module for the HP LaserJet 5Si laser printer, part of HP's proprietary printer management MIB family (predating/complementing the standard Printer-MIB). It exposes printer power/energy-management configuration (Energy Star compliance, sleep mode), job-handling behavior (continue/auto-continue on error, job input auto-continue timeout and mode), error/status logging (background status message lines, error log clear), and basic device identity data (model number). As a monitoring resource it is centrally about tracking the printer's software/operational status - job error handling and auto-continue behavior, current background status messages that reflect device state (e.g., paper jam, low toner surfaced via status lines), and power-saving/sleep-mode state - rather than deep hardware sensor telemetry. It is a vendor-specific predecessor/complement to the standard Printer-MIB (RFC 1759) and Host Resources MIB conventions used more broadly for printer management. It is deployed on HP LaserJet 5Si printers in office/enterprise environments, where LaserJet5Si-MIB SNMP monitoring lets network management systems track print job status and configure power/error-handling behavior.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LaserJet5Si-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP LaserJet 5Si laser printer

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll background-status-msg-line1-part1 and background-status-msg-line2-part1 to read the printer's current status message (e.g., a paper jam or "out of toner" condition surfacing as human-readable text), and check on-off-line to confirm whether the printer is currently online and accepting jobs. Reviewing job-input-auto-continue-mode and job-input-auto-continue-timeout reveals how the printer behaves on input errors - whether it auto-recovers after a timeout or waits for operator intervention - while sleep-mode and energy-star settings show the device's current power-management configuration.

What Can Be Monitored

  • background status message (fault/status text)
  • online/offline state
  • job auto-continue mode and timeout
  • sleep mode / Energy Star power state
  • error log
