Description: Raritan MIB for managing Raritan LHX/SHX server rack heat exchanger and cooling unit status and temperature control.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LHX-MIB?

The LHX-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Raritan (originally developed by Schroff) for managing the Varistar LHX/SHX family of server-rack heat exchanger and cooling units, a rack-level cooling technology used in data centers. It exposes device identity and network configuration objects alongside operational data from internal sensors, fans, and power supplies embedded in the cooling unit. It is explicitly built for monitoring the hardware health of the cooling system, tracking fan operational state, power supply status, and probe/sensor temperature readings, and surfacing error codes and state-change traps when a cooling component fails or degrades. The MIB is self-contained and vendor-proprietary rather than layering on standard IETF MIBs, reflecting its narrow purpose as an environmental/cooling appliance management interface. It is typically deployed by data center facilities teams alongside standard interface/environmental monitoring to ensure rack cooling infrastructure stays within safe operating parameters. Engineers can download the LHX-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LHX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Raritan/Schroff Varistar LHX/SHX rack heat exchanger
  • rack-mount cooling unit

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll lhxErrorCode and oldOperationalState per fanId, powerSupplyId, and probeId to detect a failed fan or power supply before it causes a thermal event. Polling sensorId/sensorTypeId entries alongside oldSensorState reveals whether a temperature or humidity probe has crossed a threshold or gone offline. The traps object group lets the unit push asynchronous notifications when a cooling component's operational state changes, rather than requiring constant polling.

What Can Be Monitored

  • fan operational status
  • power supply status
  • temperature/sensor probe readings
  • sensor state changes
  • error codes
  • cooling unit configuration
