Category: Network Management

Description: Manages LANNET hub and network device configuration and status.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LANNET-MIB?

LANNET-MIB is a legacy enterprise MIB from LANNET (an early Ethernet/Token Ring hub and chassis vendor later part of Madge/Lucent) covering the hardware inventory and status of its modular hub/chassis systems. It exposes chassis-level hardware inventory objects — hardware type, number of slots, and counts of Ethernet, Token Ring, FDDI, and LocalTalk buses present in the chassis — plus a generic agent group table (chGenAgTable) for per-agent/module identification, and a chassis reset control object. Its monitoring emphasis is hardware inventory and configuration status: confirming the physical chassis composition (slot count, bus types) matches expectations and using chFullConfig/chReset for configuration snapshot and remote reset operations, a basic but important hardware-management capability for a modular hub. It predates and has no dependency on modern IF-MIB-style interface conventions, relying instead on its own chassis/agent object model. It was used in legacy enterprise LAN deployments built around LANNET's multi-bus modular hub chassis products before such gear was largely replaced by switched Ethernet. Engineers can download the LANNET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LANNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • LANNET modular Ethernet/Token Ring hub chassis

Monitoring Examples

An operator would poll chNumberOfSlots, chNumberOfEthernetBuses, chNumberOfTRBuses, and chNumberOfFDDIBuses against the chGenAgTable/chGenAgEntry per-module records to confirm the physical chassis configuration (which slots hold which bus type) matches the intended design; a mismatch between expected and reported chHWType or bus counts would indicate a miscabled or failed module, and chReset could be invoked to remotely reset the chassis if a module became unresponsive.

What Can Be Monitored

  • chassis hardware type
  • slot count
  • bus type counts (Ethernet/Token Ring/FDDI/LocalTalk)
  • per-module agent identification
  • chassis configuration snapshot
  • remote chassis reset
