Category: Network Management

Description: Defines optional management extensions for NCR BSC (Base Station Controller) network elements.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is NCRBSC-OPT-MIB?

NCRBSC-OPT-MIB defines optional management extensions for NCR/AT&T CDX 6500-series Base Station Controller (BSC) data communications equipment, a legacy terminal/protocol-conversion platform. It groups optional, protocol-specific configuration objects for the controller's PCT and PST port types rather than exposing broad runtime telemetry. Its use for hardware/software status monitoring is narrow: the device group objects would be used to confirm which link-layer protocol and device-level BSC parameters are configured on a given port, functioning more as configuration-group markers than active counters. It presumably depends on a base CDX6500 MIB defining the parent object tree and possibly RFC1213-MIB-style interface conventions. It would be deployed in legacy NCR/AT&T GIS data communications networks using BSC-based terminal connectivity, now of largely historical interest. Engineers can download the NCRBSC-OPT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in NCRBSC-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • NCR/AT&T CDX 6500 Base Station Controller
  • legacy BSC/terminal networking equipment

Monitoring Examples

An operator would reference cdx6500PCTPortProtocolGroup and cdx6500PSTPortProtocolGroup to confirm which protocol is configured on each PCT or PST port of the controller, and cdx6500PCTNCRBSCDeviceGroup for device-level BSC parameters. These are grouping/conformance-style objects rather than rich counters, so this MIB is better understood as defining optional manageable feature groups than as a detailed runtime monitoring source; there isn't enough object detail here to honestly describe a specific fault-detection scenario beyond confirming protocol group configuration.

What Can Be Monitored

  • PCT port protocol configuration
  • PST port protocol configuration
  • BSC device group parameters
