Description: MIB from Juniper Networks for configuring and managing PPP subscriber connection profiles on its E-series broadband platforms.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Juniper-PPP-PROFILE-MIB?

Juniper-PPP-PROFILE-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB that defines PPP subscriber connection profiles for E-series broadband access routers, extending the generic Juniper-PROFILE-MIB with PPP-specific parameters. It exposes configuration data such as LCP magic number, keepalive interval, authentication method, MRU, and DNS/WINS priority settings applied to bulk subscriber sessions. Its monitoring relevance is largely operational/software-oriented: juniPppProfilePacketLog and juniPppProfileStateLog let an operator enable diagnostic logging of PPP packet exchange and session state transitions per profile, which is valuable for diagnosing subscriber connectivity or authentication failures at scale. It depends on and is layered over the Juniper-PROFILE-MIB, whose profile table indexing structure it reuses for PPP-specific attributes. It is deployed on broadband aggregation routers managing large numbers of dial-up or DSL PPP subscriber sessions via shared configuration profiles. Engineers can download the Juniper-PPP-PROFILE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-PPP-PROFILE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks E-series broadband routers

Monitoring Examples

An operator would inspect juniPppProfileLcpKeepalive and juniPppProfileLcpInitialMRU in a given juniPppProfileEntry to verify the keepalive interval and negotiated MRU applied to subscribers using that profile, useful when diagnosing session drops. Enabling juniPppProfileStateLog on a profile lets the operator capture PPP state machine transitions for sessions using juniPppProfileId, revealing where in negotiation (LCP, authentication, IPCP) subscriber connections are failing. juniPppProfileLcpAuthentication would be checked to confirm the expected authentication method (PAP/CHAP) is configured for that profile.

What Can Be Monitored

  • LCP keepalive interval
  • LCP initial MRU
  • LCP authentication method
  • IP peer DNS/WINS priority
  • PPP packet/state logging enablement
  • profile-to-subscriber-set mapping
