Description: Juniper Networks MIB for managing and monitoring MPLS label-switched paths and forwarding information on Juniper E-series routers.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is Juniper-MPLS-MIB?

Juniper-MPLS-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB for configuring and managing Multi-Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) on JUNOSe-based E-series routers. It exposes global MPLS switch settings, per-interface MPLS configuration, tunnel and tunnel-profile parameters, and explicit-path definitions used to build label-switched paths (LSPs). It is heavily used for monitoring MPLS control-plane software health: label range allocation, LSP setup retry counts and intervals under no-route conditions, and LDP session retry behavior all reveal whether the router's MPLS signaling software is successfully establishing and maintaining paths, or is stuck retrying due to reachability or protocol problems. It is a proprietary Juniper module rather than a direct extension of the standard IETF MPLS-LSR/MPLS-TE MIBs, though it covers conceptually similar ground. It is typically deployed on Juniper E-series edge/service-provider routers running MPLS-based VPN or traffic-engineering services. Engineers can download the Juniper-MPLS-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-MPLS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper E-series router (ERX/ES2, JUNOSe)

Monitoring Examples

An operator can poll juniMplsGroupLabelRangeLow and juniMplsGroupLabelRangeHigh to confirm the configured label space, and watch juniMplsGroupLspRetryTimesNoroute together with juniMplsGroupLspRetryIntervalNoroute to see how persistently the router is retrying LSP setup when no route to the destination exists — a high retry count signals an ongoing reachability failure blocking tunnel establishment. juniMplsGroupLdpRetryTimes and juniMplsGroupLdpRetryInterval similarly expose LDP session flapping. juniMplsGroupReopTimer shows how the router paces re-optimization of already-established tunnels.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MPLS enable/global config status
  • label range allocation
  • LSP retry attempts/intervals on no-route conditions
  • LDP retry attempts/intervals
  • tunnel re-optimization timer
