What Is JUNIPER-ATM-COS-MIB?

JUNIPER-ATM-COS-MIB is a Juniper Networks enterprise MIB (jnxMibs 21) that models ATM Class of Service (CoS) configuration and per-VC queueing behavior on Junos ATM interfaces. The jnxCosAtmVcTable (indexed by ifIndex, atmVclVpi, atmVclVci) exposes jnxCosAtmVcCosMode, indicating whether a VC's four CoS queues are serviced in strict-priority or alternating mode, while the jnxCosAtmVcScTable adds per-forwarding-class atm-scheduler parameters — jnxCosAtmVcScPriority, jnxCosAtmVcScTxWeightType/Weight, and drop-profile settings such as jnxCosAtmVcScDpType (linearRed vs. epd), jnxCosAtmVcScLrdpQueueDepth, jnxCosAtmVcScLrdpLowPlpThresh/HighPlpThresh, and jnxCosAtmVcEpdThreshold. These objects reveal how ATM virtual circuits are prioritizing and dropping cells under congestion, which is critical for diagnosing voice/video quality problems or unexpected packet loss on ATM trunks. It depends on IF-MIB and ATM-MIB for interface and VC indexing and on JUNIPER-SMI/JUNIPER-COS-MIB for the enterprise OID tree and forwarding-class identifiers. Anyone standing up monitoring for Junos ATM CoS behavior can find a JUNIPER-ATM-COS-MIB download from Juniper's MIB archive to load into their toolchain.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in JUNIPER-ATM-COS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Juniper Networks routers with ATM interfaces running Junos (enterprise MIB, not a distinct hardware family)

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls jnxCosAtmVcScDpType and jnxCosAtmVcScLrdpHighPlpThresh for a given VC and forwarding class to confirm which RED drop profile is active and where high-PLP cells start getting dropped; cells being dropped well below the configured jnxCosAtmVcScLrdpQueueDepth would point to a misconfigured drop profile causing premature loss on that ATM CoS queue.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-VC CoS queue servicing mode (strict/alternate)
  • atm-scheduler priority and transmit weight per forwarding class
  • RED vs. EPD drop-profile type
  • linear RED queue depth and PLP thresholds
  • EPD drop threshold
