Description: Provides managed objects for bridged Ethernet interface monitoring and 802.1D spanning tree on Juniper Networks E-series routers.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is Juniper-BRIDGE-ETHERNET-MIB?
This Juniper enterprise MIB covers bridged Ethernet interfaces on E-series routers and their participation in 802.1D transparent bridging. It exposes configuration and status data per bridged Ethernet interface: interface index mapping, lower-layer interface linkage, proxy ARP setting, MTU, layer/bridging mode, and row status for interface creation/deletion. Monitoring emphasis is primarily on software/configuration status of the bridging layer — juniBridgedEthernetIfRowStatus reveals whether an interface entry is active or still being provisioned, and the interface-to-lower-interface linkage is used to confirm a bridged interface is correctly mapped onto its physical port, important for diagnosing bridging or spanning-tree topology issues. This MIB supplements the standard IF-MIB and BRIDGE-MIB (RFC 1493) definitions since it layers bridged-Ethernet-specific attributes on top of standard interface/bridge objects. It is deployed on Juniper E-series edge/aggregation routers providing Layer 2 bridged Ethernet services alongside routed interfaces. Engineers can download the Juniper-BRIDGE-ETHERNET-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in Juniper-BRIDGE-ETHERNET-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Juniper E-Series router (bridged Ethernet/Layer 2 service)
Monitoring Examples
Polling juniBridgedEthernetIfTable/juniBridgedEthernetIfEntry by juniBridgedEthernetIfIfIndex lets an operator confirm juniBridgedEthernetIfLowerIfIndex correctly maps a bridged interface onto its physical port, and check juniBridgedEthernetIfRowStatus to verify the interface is active rather than stuck in a notInService state. juniBridgedEthernetProxyArp and juniBridgedEthernetIfMtu would be checked to confirm proxy ARP and MTU settings match the intended bridging configuration, useful when troubleshooting why a bridged segment isn't forwarding as expected.
What Can Be Monitored
- bridged interface to physical port mapping
- interface row/provisioning status
- proxy ARP setting
- interface MTU configuration
