juniBridgedEthernetNextIfIndex

Module: Juniper-BRIDGE-ETHERNET-MIB

OID (symbolic): Juniper-BRIDGE-ETHERNET-MIB::juniBridgedEthernetNextIfIndex

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.4874.2.2.31.1.1.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: JuniNextIfIndex

Access: read-only

Description: Coordinate ifIndex value allocation for entries in juniBridgedEthernetIfTable.

A GET of this object returns the next available ifIndex value to be used to create an entry in the associated interface table; or zero, if no valid ifIndex value is available. This object also returns a value of zero when it is the lexicographic successor of a varbind presented in an SNMP GETNEXT or GETBULK request, for which circumstance it is assumed that ifIndex allocation is unintended.

Successive GETs will typically return different values, thus avoiding collisions among cooperating management clients seeking to create table entries simultaneously.

What is juniBridgedEthernetNextIfIndex?

This JuniNextIfIndex value returns the next available ifIndex to use when creating a new entry in juniBridgedEthernetIfTable, or zero if none is available. Admins/management software read this before creating a new Bridged Ethernet interface via SNMP SET, which avoids collisions between multiple management clients creating interfaces simultaneously. For example, a provisioning tool reads juniBridgedEthernetNextIfIndex and uses the returned value (e.g. 22) as the index when creating a new Bridged Ethernet interface entry.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.4874.2.2.31.1.1.1
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> Juniper-BRIDGE-ETHERNET-MIB::juniBridgedEthernetNextIfIndex

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.4874.2.2.31.1.1.1.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> Juniper-BRIDGE-ETHERNET-MIB::juniBridgedEthernetNextIfIndex.1

SNMPv3 example:

snmpget -v3 -l authPriv -u snmpv3-user -a SHA -A "AuthPassword1" -x AES -X "PrivPassword1" <target> juniBridgedEthernetNextIfIndex.1
