Description: IEEE 802.1 MIB for Multiple VLAN Registration Protocol extensions (MVRP) providing dynamic VLAN membership registration management.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IEEE8021-MVRPX-MIB?

IEEE8021-MVRPX-MIB is a vendor-neutral IEEE 802.1Q standards MIB defining extensions to the Multiple VLAN Registration Protocol (MVRP), which lets switches dynamically propagate VLAN membership across a bridged LAN. It exposes per-port configuration objects controlling MVRP behavior, such as whether a port only accepts new registrations, whether newly learned MVRP state is propagated, and whether zero-value PDUs are transmitted. As a protocol-extension module it centers on configuration state rather than hardware health telemetry — there is no CPU, memory, temperature, or power data here, only VLAN registration protocol behavior per port. It explicitly depends on and cross-references IEEE Std 802.1Q, of which MVRP itself is a part, and is typically paired with the base IEEE8021-MVRP-MIB and Q-BRIDGE-MIB on the same device. It is deployed on enterprise and carrier Ethernet switches that support dynamic VLAN registration across trunked links, and the IEEE8021-MVRPX-MIB reference remains the authoritative source for these per-port MVRP extension objects.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IEEE8021-MVRPX-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based IEEE 802.1Q MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • managed Ethernet switch/bridge supporting MVRP

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ieee8021MvrpxPortTable/ieee8021MvrpxPortEntry per port to check ieee8021MvrpxPortNewOnly and confirm whether a port is restricted to accepting only new VLAN registrations rather than merging with existing state. ieee8021MvrpxPortMvrpNewPropagated reveals whether newly registered VLANs are being flooded onward to other ports, which is useful when diagnosing unexpected VLAN sprawl. ieee8021MvrpxPortXmitZero indicates a port-level protocol optimization setting rather than a fault condition.

What Can Be Monitored

  • MVRP new-registrations-only mode per port
  • MVRP new-registration propagation status per port
  • MVRP zero-PDU transmission setting per port
  • per-port MVRP conformance/compliance status
