Category: IP and Core Protocols
Description: Defines managed objects for entities implementing UDP over IPv6, providing UDP endpoint and statistics information for IPv6 networks.
IPNetwork Monitor uses several OIDs from this MIB in network discovery and polling the applicable devices. Start monitoring IPV6-UDP-MIB with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor.
What Is IPV6-UDP-MIB?
IPV6-UDP-MIB is a vendor-neutral IETF standards MIB defining managed objects for monitoring UDP endpoints and statistics on devices implementing UDP over IPv6. It belongs to the core network transport-protocol monitoring category, alongside its IPv4 UDP-MIB counterpart. It exposes a listener table showing active UDP endpoints bound over IPv6, including local address, local port, and the interface on which each listener resides. Its monitoring value is primarily software/protocol-level - confirming which UDP services are actively listening on which IPv6 addresses/ports/interfaces on a host, useful for verifying a service (e.g., DNS, SNMP itself, or an application daemon) is correctly bound and reachable over IPv6, and spotting unexpected or missing listeners. It depends on the INET-ADDRESS-MIB and IPV6-TC textual conventions for representing IPv6 addresses, and is deployed on any IPv6-enabled host, server, or network device running UDP-based services. Engineers implementing or auditing this functionality typically reference the IPV6-UDP-MIB RFC/standard documentation for the authoritative specification.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IPV6-UDP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
- any IPv6-enabled server, host, or network device
Monitoring Examples
An administrator can poll ipv6UdpTable/ipv6UdpEntry to enumerate active listeners, reading ipv6UdpLocalAddress and ipv6UdpLocalPort to confirm a critical service (such as DNS on port 53) is actually bound and listening over IPv6, and ipv6UdpIfIndex to identify which interface it's bound to. The absence of an expected entry in the table, or one bound to the wrong ipv6UdpLocalAddress, would reveal a service that failed to start or was misconfigured to listen only on IPv4.
What Can Be Monitored
- active UDP listener local address
- active UDP listener local port
- UDP listener interface index

RFC description
Obsolete MIB defining UDP listener information for IPv6 endpoints; replaced by the revised UDP-MIB (RFC 4113).
