Description: IPPM-CONTROL-MIB module

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is IPPM-CONTROL-MIB?

IPPM-CONTROL-MIB is an IETF/experimental standards-track MIB defining notification (trap) objects used to control IP Performance Metrics (IPPM) measurement activity — specifically setting up multicast-based instantaneous performance measurements and reporting their results, as well as pushing alarms related to those metrics. It is fundamentally a control/notification module for network performance measurement rather than a device hardware/software health MIB: its objects trigger and report on active measurement sessions (e.g. one-way delay/loss style metrics) rather than reporting CPU, memory, or fan status. To the extent it monitors anything, it reports the outcome of IPPM measurement operations and any associated alarm conditions from those measurements. It depends directly on the broader IETF IPPM framework/MIB suite that defines the metrics being measured and reported, and was registered under an experimental (IANA-to-be-assigned) OID subtree. It would be deployed on routers or dedicated measurement probes participating in an IPPM-based active network performance measurement infrastructure. Engineers can download the IPPM-CONTROL-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IPPM-CONTROL-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • vendor-neutral, standards-based IETF experimental MIB, not tied to a specific manufacturer
  • routers/probes participating in IPPM active performance measurement

Monitoring Examples

A measurement controller would use ippmMulticastInstantaneousMeasureSetup notifications to initiate a multicast-based one-off performance measurement between endpoints, then receive a corresponding result notification reporting the measured metric. No sample runtime objects/tables were provided for this module, so this describes the module's documented notification-based control mechanism rather than a table-polling scenario, and it should not be assumed to expose ongoing pollable counters. As an experimental IETF module, some object names/behavior may be provisional or non-finalized.
