What Is IPAD-MIB?

IPAD-MIB is a vendor MIB from Verilink for its IPAD family of Integrated Access Devices (IADs), which combine Frame Relay/WAN access with LAN termination in a single box. It exposes Frame Relay port configuration and status objects, including LMI signaling parameters and per-port alarm thresholds for transmit and receive errors. This MIB is squarely aimed at monitoring the operational and fault status of the WAN interface hardware: whether a Frame Relay port is active, what LMI type/mode it is running, and whether receive or transmit alarm thresholds have been breached, which flags a degrading or failing WAN link. It is a self-contained proprietary MIB but is typically polled alongside standard IF-MIB interface counters for a complete picture. Deployment context is small-to-midsize branch offices or telco customer premises where an IPAD device provides Frame Relay-based WAN access. Engineers can download the IPAD-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in IPAD-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • Frame Relay port active/service state
  • LMI type and mode
  • receive alarm threshold and status
  • transmit alarm threshold and status
  • receive invalid-frame alarm status

Supported Devices

  • Verilink IPAD Integrated Access Device

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll ipadFrPortTable/ipadFrPortTableEntry to enumerate each Frame Relay port and check ipadFrPortActive and ipadFrPortService to confirm the port is provisioned and up. Watching ipadFrPortRxAlmAlarm and ipadFrPortTxAlmAlarm against their configured ipadFrPortRxAlmThreshold and ipadFrPortTxAlmThreshold values reveals when error rates on a WAN link exceed acceptable bounds, often the first sign of a failing circuit. ipadFrPortLMIType and ipadFrPortLMIMode would be checked when a port fails to establish Frame Relay signaling with the carrier.
