Category: Frame Relay, Protocol: Frame Relay, Vendor: Intel
Description: Intel Frame Relay extensions MIB providing proprietary SNMP objects for extended Frame Relay interface configuration and statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is INTEL-FREXT-MIB?
INTEL-FREXT-MIB is Intel's private MIB extending Frame Relay interface management beyond the standard Frame Relay DTE MIB, adding per-circuit encapsulation configuration and reset-signaling statistics for Intel networking hardware. It exposes a circuit encapsulation table keyed by interface and DLCI, covering encapsulation enable/negotiated status and counts of reset requests/acknowledgments sent and received, plus discarded receive frame counts. As a monitoring MIB it is used to check the software/protocol health of Frame Relay virtual circuits, where rising reset request/acknowledgment or discarded-frame counts reveal an unstable or misconfigured PVC experiencing repeated resets or frame loss, a key fault indicator for Frame Relay WAN links. It extends the standard IETF Frame Relay DTE MIB lineage with Intel-proprietary encapsulation objects. It is typically deployed on Intel-based WAN routers/access devices terminating Frame Relay circuits in legacy WAN environments. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the INTEL-FREXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-FREXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Intel-based Frame Relay WAN routers/access devices
Monitoring Examples
An operator polling frCirExtEncTable/frCirExtEncEntry by frCirExtEncIfIndex/frCirExtEncDlci can check frCirExtEncEnabled/frCirExtEncNegotiated to confirm a given DLCI's encapsulation negotiated successfully. A climbing frCirExtEncResetRequestsRx or frCirExtEncResetAcksTx count signals the circuit is flapping and repeatedly resetting, while frCirExtEncRxDiscarded reveals frames being dropped on receive, both symptoms of a degraded Frame Relay PVC.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-DLCI encapsulation enabled/negotiated status
- reset requests/acknowledgments sent and received
- discarded received frames
