Description: Intel firmware management MIB providing SNMP objects for version reporting and firmware upgrade operations on Intel devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is INTEL-FW-MIB?

INTEL-FW-MIB is Intel's private MIB for managing firmware modules on Intel networking/chassis hardware, providing objects to inventory installed firmware images and perform upgrade-related operations such as deleting plug-ins or backup images. It exposes a firmware module table keyed by chassis, module, and software section/number index, with fields for filename, description, load time, and an associated IP address, plus delete-plugin/delete-backup control objects. As a monitoring and software-management MIB, its central purpose is tracking firmware/software version and load status across chassis modules, letting administrators confirm which firmware image and version is loaded on each module and detect stale or failed firmware loads. There is no explicit dependency on other standard MIBs; it is a self-contained Intel private-enterprise module, though it would typically coexist with the standard ENTITY-MIB for chassis/module inventory. It is typically deployed on modular Intel network switches or chassis systems where individual line cards or software sections require independent firmware tracking and remote upgrade. Engineers can download the INTEL-FW-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in INTEL-FW-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Intel modular network switches/chassis systems

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polling fwModuleTable/fwModuleEntry by fwModuleChassisIndex/fwModuleModuleIndex/fwModuleSWSectionIndex can check fwModuleFileName and fwModuleLoadTime to confirm which firmware image is active on a given module and when it was loaded, flagging modules still running an old image after a fleet-wide upgrade. The fwModuleIpAddress field would identify the source server used for the last firmware transfer, useful for auditing upgrade provenance. fwModuleDeletePlugIn/fwModuleDeleteBackup are control objects for removing obsolete firmware images rather than monitoring data.
