Description: Huawei WLAN MIB for managing software updates and firmware distribution to WLAN devices under a wireless LAN controller.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-WLAN-UPDATE-MIB?

HUAWEI-WLAN-UPDATE-MIB is a Huawei-proprietary module for managing centralized software/firmware updates pushed from a WLAN Access Controller to its managed access points. It exposes each AP's current firmware version, the target update image, and the status of an in-progress, successful, or failed update task. Its monitoring purpose maps directly to software version and job/queue status: tracking whether each AP has successfully completed its firmware update task, or is stuck in progress or failed, is essential during a mass firmware rollout. It works within Huawei's broader WLAN AC-AP management framework, which coordinates AP discovery, configuration, and now firmware distribution from the controller. It is typically deployed on Huawei WLAN Access Controllers managing fleets of access points that require centralized, controller-initiated firmware updates. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-WLAN-UPDATE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-WLAN-UPDATE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei WLAN Access Controllers and access points (AP)

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll an AP update-task table (an hwWlanApUpdateTable/hwWlanApUpdateEntry pattern) for each AP's current firmware version, target version, and update-task status. During a mass rollout, APs whose task status remains stuck in-progress or shows failed are the ones needing a manual re-trigger or a check for a download/connectivity issue. Comparing current versus target firmware version across the fleet confirms the rollout has fully completed before it is marked done.

What Can Be Monitored

  • AP firmware/software version
  • update task status (in-progress/success/failed)
  • target software image
  • update rollout progress across AP fleet
