Description: Huawei Ethernet optical module MIB providing digital diagnostic monitoring for SFP/QSFP transceiver modules including Tx/Rx power and temperature.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HUAWEI-ETHERNET-OPTICMODULE-MIB?

HUAWEI-ETHERNET-OPTICMODULE-MIB is a Huawei MIB module providing Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) data for SFP, SFP+, and QSFP Ethernet optical transceiver modules installed in Huawei switches and routers. It exposes real-time optical transceiver metrics including transmit and receive optical power, module temperature, and related operating parameters, along with module identification/inventory information. This is a hardware health-monitoring MIB in the truest sense: degrading Tx/Rx power or rising module temperature are classic early-warning signs of a failing transceiver or a degraded fiber connection, well before the link actually drops. It builds on the SFF-8472 industry DDM standard for transceiver diagnostics, exposed here through a Huawei-private SNMP object tree rather than the IETF ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB. It is deployed in Huawei carrier and enterprise switches/routers wherever pluggable optics are used, particularly on core and uplink ports where optical link quality is critical. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-ETHERNET-OPTICMODULE-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-ETHERNET-OPTICMODULE-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Huawei switches
  • Huawei routers with pluggable optical transceivers

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll the optical module objects per interface to read current Tx power, Rx power, and module temperature, comparing them against vendor-specified thresholds. A steadily declining Rx power reading on a core uplink transceiver would predict an impending link failure, prompting proactive replacement before an outage occurs. An abnormally high module temperature reading could indicate a cooling problem in the chassis or a marginal optic nearing end-of-life.

What Can Be Monitored

  • transmit optical power (Tx)
  • receive optical power (Rx)
  • optical module temperature
  • transceiver module identification/inventory
