Description: Huawei MSTP (Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol) MIB for managing MST instances, region configuration, and port roles.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HUAWEI-MSTP-MIB?
HUAWEI-MSTP-MIB is a Huawei private enterprise MIB for managing the Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP, IEEE 802.1s) implementation on Huawei bridges and switches. It exposes configuration and status data about MST regions, MST instances (mapping VLANs to spanning-tree instances), and the role and state of each bridge port within those instances. While primarily a Layer 2 topology-configuration MIB, it supports monitoring the software status of the spanning-tree protocol itself, such as whether a port is forwarding, blocking, or in an alternate/backup role, which is important for detecting loops or unexpected topology changes. It builds on concepts defined in the IEEE 802.1s/802.1Q MSTP standard and is a Huawei-specific complement to standard bridge MIBs such as the IETF BRIDGE-MIB. It's typically deployed on Huawei enterprise or carrier switches running MSTP to prevent Layer 2 loops across VLAN-segmented networks. Engineers can download the HUAWEI-MSTP-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HUAWEI-MSTP-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Huawei enterprise switch
- Huawei carrier switch
Monitoring Examples
This MIB excerpt provides no specific object or table names, but based on its stated purpose an administrator would typically read the MST region name/revision and per-instance VLAN mapping to confirm all switches agree on region configuration, then poll per-port role and state (root, designated, alternate/backup; forwarding/blocking) for each MST instance. A port unexpectedly reporting a blocking or alternate state, or a region configuration mismatch between switches, would indicate an active spanning-tree loop-prevention event or a misconfiguration.
What Can Be Monitored
- MST region name and revision
- instance-to-VLAN mapping
- per-port MSTP role
- per-port MSTP state
- bridge priority
