What Is HUAWEI-COMMTEST-MIB?
This is a Huawei private MIB providing communication-test objects for initiating and retrieving results from network diagnostic tests such as ping, traceroute, loopback, and MELT (Metallic Line Test), a specialized copper-pair test used to check the physical condition of the twisted-pair line between a DSL/voice service board and the subscriber's phone or modem. Monitoring Examples
A technician troubleshooting a subscriber's DSL line would initiate a MELT test against the relevant line/port and then query the test result and calibration data to check for line faults such as opens, shorts, or abnormal resistance/capacitance on the copper pair between the service board and the customer's phone set. Separately, initiating a ping or traceroute test object toward a target address would validate IP-layer reachability from the access device, and starting/stopping a searching tone test helps a technician locate a specific pair among a cable bundle at the customer premises.
