What Is HPN-ICF-IPRAN-DCN-MIB?
HPN-ICF-IPRAN-DCN-MIB is an HP Networking (Comware/H3C) vendor MIB for IP RAN (mobile backhaul) transport devices, providing mechanisms to monitor network elements (NEs) within an IP-based Data Communication Network (DCN) used for out-of-band management of the transport nodes. It exposes a table of known network elements identified by NE ID, IP address/type, and subnet mask, along with routing metric and device-type information used to reach each NE, plus a count of total configured NEs. For hardware/software status monitoring, this MIB is primarily about verifying DCN reachability configuration to remote transport nodes, since a missing or misconfigured NE entry (wrong IP, mask, or metric) indicates that a given base-station or aggregation-site device may be unreachable for management/monitoring purposes. It relies on standard IP addressing concepts but is a vendor-specific management-plane MIB rather than an extension of a named IETF MIB. It is deployed on HP/Comware IP RAN transport routers used in mobile backhaul networks connecting cell sites to core aggregation points. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-IPRAN-DCN-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-IPRAN-DCN-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- HP/Comware IP RAN transport router
Monitoring Examples
An administrator would poll hpnicfIpRanDcnNeInfoTable (via hpnicfIpRanDcnNeInfoNeId) and inspect hpnicfIpRanDcnNeInfoNeIp, hpnicfIpRanDcnNeInfoNeIpType, and hpnicfIpRanDcnNeInfoMetric to confirm each remote network element's management IP and reachability metric are correctly provisioned. The hpnicfIpRanDcnNeInfoDeviceType field identifies what kind of device each NE is, and hpnicfIpRanDcnNeNumber gives a quick count to detect if an expected NE has dropped out of the DCN topology, which would indicate a lost management path to that cell-site or aggregation node.
What Can Be Monitored
- network element ID, IP address, and type
- NE subnet mask
- routing metric to each NE
- NE device type
- total number of configured network elements
