Description: Manages In-Service Software Upgrade (ISSU) procedures and state transitions on HP/Comware carrier-grade devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-ISSU-MIB?

HPN-ICF-ISSU-MIB is an HP/H3C Comware enterprise MIB (part of the ICF, Intelligent Configuration Framework, private MIB family) that manages In-Service Software Upgrade operations on modular or stacked network devices. It exposes objects for selecting and staging upgrade images per module/slot, tracking image types and URLs, and reporting the outcome and completion time of upgrade or test operations. Administrators use it to monitor software version rollout status, upgrade success/failure reasons, and operation completion timestamps, giving visibility into the software state of each hardware module during a hitless upgrade. Because ISSU coordinates per-slot image assignment, it depends on the underlying entity/module numbering conventions used elsewhere in the HPN-ICF chassis MIBs rather than on standard IETF MIBs. It is typically deployed on carrier-grade, chassis-based or stackable HP/H3C Comware switches and routers where software can be upgraded without a full reboot. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-ISSU-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-ISSU-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP/H3C Comware chassis switches and routers
  • modular/stackable enterprise network devices

Monitoring Examples

A network operations team polls hpnicfIssuUpgradeImageTable (indexed by hpnicfIssuUpgradeImageIndex) to see which hpnicfIssuUpgradeImageType/hpnicfIssuUpgradeImageURL has been staged for each module, then triggers hpnicfIssuOpType to start an upgrade or test run. They watch hpnicfIssuOpStatus and hpnicfIssuOpTimeCompleted to confirm the operation finished, and if hpnicfIssuFailedReason is non-empty they know a module failed to load the new image and needs manual intervention. Enabling hpnicfIssuOpTrapEnable lets the system send a trap the moment the upgrade completes or fails, rather than requiring continuous polling.

What Can Be Monitored

  • upgrade image type per module
  • upgrade/test operation status
  • upgrade failure reason
  • operation completion time
  • image file overwrite setting
  • trap notification enable state
