Description: Handles Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) service instances used for carrier Ethernet on HP/Comware devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-EVC-MIB?

HPN-ICF-EVC-MIB is HP Networking's proprietary MIB (Comware/ICF private MIB family) for managing Ethernet Virtual Connection (EVC) service instances, a carrier-Ethernet feature used to multiplex multiple customer services over a single physical port via VLAN tag mapping. It exposes per-service-instance configuration such as encapsulation type, S-VLAN/C-VLAN ID ranges, per-port service instance capacity, and statistics enable flags. Its status-monitoring role covers both configuration correctness and performance counters: whether input/output statistics collection is enabled per instance and whether a port has reached its maximum service-instance count are the key operational indicators, functioning as software/service-configuration health rather than physical hardware status. It builds on standard 802.1ad/QinQ VLAN tagging concepts and complements IF-MIB interface indexing when tying service instances to physical ports. It is deployed on HP/H3C Comware carrier-Ethernet-capable switches and routers in metro Ethernet or service-provider access networks. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-EVC-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-EVC-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP Networking (Comware/H3C ICF) carrier Ethernet switch/router

Monitoring Examples

An operator inspects hpnicfEvcSrvInstTable, indexed by hpnicfEvcSrvInstId, checking hpnicfEvcSrvInstEncap along with the hpnicfEvcSrvInstSvlanIdListLow/High range to verify a service instance's S-VLAN mapping matches its provisioning record. Checking hpnicfEvcSrvInstEnableInStat and hpnicfEvcSrvInstEnableOutStat confirms whether traffic statistics are being collected for that instance, and comparing the number of configured instances on a port against hpnicfEvcPortMaxSrvInstNum explains why new hpnicfEvcSrvInstRowStatus creation attempts might start failing once the port's capacity is reached.

What Can Be Monitored

  • EVC service instance configuration
  • S-VLAN/C-VLAN ID range mapping
  • encapsulation type per service instance
  • input/output statistics enable status
  • max service instances per port
  • service instance row status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hpnicfEvcSrvInstInPackets OID:

Select an HP Networking (Comware/H3C ICF) carrier Ethernet switch/router (Ethernet Virtual Connection) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpnicfEvcSrvInstInPackets into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the number of inbound packets received on this service instance. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline (in packets), since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
