Category: Technology: Multicast, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: Manages multicast group snooping (IGMP/MLD) for Layer 2 forwarding optimization on H3C switches.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HH3C-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB?

HH3C-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB is an H3C enterprise MIB for managing IGMP/MLD snooping, the Layer 2 mechanism switches use to optimize multicast forwarding by only sending multicast traffic to interested ports. It exposes global configuration parameters such as snooping type, entry limits, host/router aging timers, last-member query interval, and per virtual-unit (stack member) configuration in a stacked-switch environment. This MIB is used to monitor the software-configuration health of the snooping feature, letting an administrator confirm snooping is enabled (hh3cMcsGlbSnoopingType), row status is active, and aging timers are set appropriately to avoid premature or delayed multicast group expiry. It builds directly on the standard IGMP/MLD protocol model, so it complements rather than replaces IETF multicast MIBs like IGMP-STD-MIB. Typical deployment is on H3C Layer 2/Layer 3 switches in enterprise or campus networks running IPTV, video conferencing, or other multicast applications. Network engineers evaluating or troubleshooting this functionality can download the HH3C-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HH3C-MULTICAST-SNOOPING-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C Layer 2/Layer 3 campus switch
  • H3C switch stack

Monitoring Examples

An administrator can poll hh3cMcsGlobalConfigTable/hh3cMcsGlobalConfigEntry for hh3cMcsGlbHostAgingTime and hh3cMcsGlbRouterAgingTime to verify multicast group membership isn't aging out too quickly, which would cause intermittent stream drops for viewers. hh3cMcsGlbEntryLimit and hh3cMcsGlbDropUnknownEnabled reveal whether the switch is near its snooping table capacity or silently dropping unregistered multicast traffic. In a stacked deployment, hh3cMcsVirtualUnitConfigTable/hh3cMcsVirtualUnitConfigEntry lets the operator confirm each stack member has consistent snooping configuration.

What Can Be Monitored

  • snooping enable/type status
  • host/router aging timers
  • snooping entry table limit
  • last member query interval
  • unknown multicast drop setting
  • per-stack-unit snooping config
