Description: HP Networking ICF SNMP MIB for DHCPv4 client/server/relay comprehensive management on HP networking devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-DHCP4-MIB?

HPN-ICF-DHCP4-MIB is an HPE/H3C Comware ICF private MIB providing comprehensive management of DHCPv4 server and relay processing on the device, extending well beyond the standard IETF DHCP MIBs. It exposes configuration scalars for server behavior (hpnicfDhcpServer2Enabled, AlwaysBroadcast, IgnoreBootp, Opt82Enabled) plus operational counters (hpnicfDhcpServer2BadNum, BootpRequestNum, DiscoverNum, RequestNum, DeclineNum) tracking DHCP message volumes and errors, alongside a parallel relay configuration group. In terms of software status, this is a service-health MIB: rising bad-packet or decline counts can reveal address pool exhaustion, misconfigured clients, or a rogue DHCP server, while the enable/relay scalars confirm the DHCP service is running as intended. It is a vendor extension complementing the standard IETF DHCP MIBs and RFC 2131 concepts. It is deployed on HPE/H3C Comware switches and routers acting as DHCP servers or relays, and administrators can download the HPN-ICF-DHCP4-MIB file to load its object definitions into a MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-DHCP4-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HPE/H3C Comware switches
  • HPE/H3C Comware routers

Monitoring Examples

An admin polls hpnicfDhcpServer2DiscoverNum and hpnicfDhcpServer2RequestNum to gauge DHCP lease request volume, and watches hpnicfDhcpServer2BadNum and hpnicfDhcpServer2DeclineNum for spikes indicating address conflicts or pool exhaustion. Checking hpnicfDhcpServer2Enabled and hpnicfDhcpServer2Opt82Enabled confirms the server and Option 82 relay-agent insertion are active as configured. A jump in hpnicfDhcpServer2BootpRequestNum alongside normal DiscoverNum could also signal legacy BOOTP clients needing separate handling.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCP server enable state
  • DHCP discover/request message counts
  • DHCP bad-packet and decline counts
  • DHCP Option 82 relay-agent status
  • BOOTP request count
