Description: HP StorageWorks LeftHand Networks MIB for managing DNS client configuration on HP P4000 SAN storage nodes.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-DNS-MIB?

LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-DNS-MIB is an HP StorageWorks (originally LeftHand Networks) private MIB that reports DNS client configuration for a Network Storage Module (NSM) node in an HP P4000 SAN/iQ storage cluster. It exposes scalar objects dnsMode (static or auto -- when auto, no nameservers are separately counted) and dnsDomainName, plus dnsNameserverCount and a dnsNameserverTable (indexed by dnsIndex) listing each configured DNS server address via dnsServer, and correspondingly dnsSuffixCount with a dnsSuffixTable listing configured search-domain suffixes via dnsSuffix. The dnsRowStatus and dnsSuffixRowStatus columns are marked obsolete as of SAN/iQ 8.5, reflecting how the module evolved from a writable configuration table to a read-only reporting table across firmware versions. It is purely a name-resolution-configuration MIB rather than a fault or performance MIB, and it depends on LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-GLOBAL-REG-MIB for its registration point and LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-MIB for the parent lhnNsmDNS subtree, so it must be loaded after both. It is deployed on HP P4000 (LeftHand) SAN storage nodes running SAN/iQ software, and administrators can download the LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-DNS-MIB file to load it into their MIB browser to confirm each node's DNS configuration in a clustered environment.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in LEFTHAND-NETWORKS-NSM-DNS-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HP StorageWorks P4000 (LeftHand Networks) SAN storage nodes running SAN/iQ

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls dnsMode and dnsNameserverTable across every node in a P4000 SAN/iQ cluster to confirm all nodes point to the same DNS servers and search suffixes; a node reporting a different dnsDomainName or a dnsNameserverTable missing an entry present on its peers would indicate a misconfigured node likely to suffer name-resolution failures during cluster operations.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DNS mode (static vs. auto)
  • configured DNS nameserver count and address table
  • DNS domain name
  • configured DNS suffix count and suffix table
