What Is HPN-ICF-CONFIG-MAN-MIB?

HPN-ICF-CONFIG-MAN-MIB manages configuration data for HP Networking (H3C Comware-based) devices, modeling the running and startup configuration state and providing a change-log mechanism for tracking configuration modifications over time. It exposes objects like hpnicfCfgRunModifiedLast, hpnicfCfgRunSavedLast, and hpnicfCfgStartModifiedLast to track when the running/startup configs were last changed or saved, plus a hpnicfCfgLogTable recording each configuration change event with timestamp, source command, and source data. This MIB is squarely about monitoring the software/configuration status of the device: it lets an admin detect unsaved configuration changes (running config modified after last save), audit who/what issued a given config change, and confirm whether config logging has begun dropping entries via hpnicfCfgLogLimitedEntries/hpnicfCfgLogDeletedEntries. It models configuration data conceptually but has no strong dependency on other standard MIBs beyond the vendor's own ICF framework. It is deployed on H3C/HP Networking switches and routers where configuration-change auditing and drift detection are required. An admin can compare hpnicfCfgRunModifiedLast against hpnicfCfgRunSavedLast to detect a device with unsaved changes that would be lost on reboot, then walk hpnicfCfgLogTable's hpnicfCfgLogTime and hpnicfCfgLogSrcCmd entries to identify exactly which CLI command triggered the most recent change; a rising hpnicfCfgLogDeletedEntries count indicates the log buffer is full and older change history is being purged.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using hpnicfCfgLogDeletedEntries OID:

Select an HP Networking/H3C switch and router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type hpnicfCfgLogDeletedEntries into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. The total number of rows deleted from hpnicfCfgLogTable. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
