Description: HP Networking ICF SNMP MIB for virtual routing and forwarding (VRF) context management on HP networking devices.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is HPN-ICF-CONTEXT-MIB?

HPN-ICF-CONTEXT-MIB is an HPE/H3C Comware ICF private MIB used to manage "contexts" — virtual routing/forwarding partitions that let a single physical switch or router behave as multiple logical devices. It defines a control table (hpnicfContextControlTable/Entry) keyed by hpnicfContextIndex and holding hpnicfContextName, along with a notification group for context-related events. Rather than hardware health, its monitoring value is configuration/state visibility: confirming which contexts exist, their names, and whether context creation/deletion operations succeeded. Its notification objects (hpnicfContextNotification/NotificationObjects) can alert an operator to unexpected context lifecycle changes, important in multi-tenant deployments. It relies on standard SNMPv2-CONF/TC conventions and is used on HPE/H3C Comware core and edge routers supporting virtualized routing contexts. Engineers can download the HPN-ICF-CONTEXT-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HPN-ICF-CONTEXT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • HPE/H3C Comware routers
  • HPE/H3C Comware switches

Monitoring Examples

An operator walks hpnicfContextControlTable to enumerate configured contexts by hpnicfContextIndex and hpnicfContextName, verifying expected virtual routing partitions (e.g., per-customer VRFs) are present and correctly named. An unexpected disappearance of an entry, or an hpnicfContextNotification trap firing outside a planned maintenance window, would flag an unauthorized or accidental context deletion affecting that customer's routing domain.

What Can Be Monitored

  • context creation/deletion status
  • context lifecycle notifications
