Category: LAN Management
Description: Monitors interface traffic statistics and status on Hillstone Networks firewalls.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is HILLSTONE-IF-MIB?
HILLSTONE-IF-MIB is a vendor-specific SNMP module from Hillstone Networks for monitoring interface configuration and traffic status on Hillstone firewalls (next-generation firewall/UTM appliances). It exposes counts of WAN and LAN interfaces along with a detailed per-interface attribute table covering interface name, type/attribute, IP address, subnet mask, management IP, and secondary IP addressing. As a monitoring MIB it is focused on interface-level status and configuration rather than deep chassis health, letting an operator confirm how many WAN/LAN interfaces are present, verify each interface's assigned IP/netmask and management address, and detect misconfigurations such as a missing or unexpected secondary IP. It is a self-contained vendor MIB without an apparent dependency on the standard IF-MIB, though it parallels concepts found there. It is deployed on Hillstone firewall appliances at network edges or data-center perimeters where administrators track interface provisioning and addressing as part of routine health checks. Engineers can download the HILLSTONE-IF-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HILLSTONE-IF-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- Hillstone Networks firewalls
- Hillstone UTM/security appliances
Monitoring Examples
An operator would read hillstoneWanIfNumber and hillstoneLanIfNumber to get the total count of WAN and LAN interfaces on the firewall, then walk hillstoneIfAttriTable/hillstoneIfAttriEntry (indexed by hillstoneIfIndex) to see each interface's hillstoneIfName, hillstoneIfAttribute (role/type), hillstoneIfNetAddress, and hillstoneIfNetMask. Checking hillstoneIfManageIp confirms which interface is used for out-of-band or in-band management access, while hillstoneIfSecIpAddress0/hillstoneIfSecNetMask0 reveal a secondary IP configured on that interface, useful for spotting an unintended dual-homed configuration.
What Can Be Monitored
- WAN interface count
- LAN interface count
- per-interface name and attribute/type
- interface IP address and netmask
- management IP address
- secondary IP address configuration
