What Is HILLSTONE-SMI?

HILLSTONE-SMI is the Structure of Management Information module for Hillstone Networks, defining the company's enterprise OID root and the top-level organizational branches under which all other Hillstone-specific MIBs (interfaces, power, chassis, etc.) register their objects. It contains no runtime data objects itself; rather it is purely a naming/registration module establishing the OID tree conventions used across the vendor's MIB set, and any HILLSTONE-SMI download typically bundles it alongside the functional MIBs that depend on it. As such it has no bearing on monitoring hardware or software status directly, and any "health" value it provides is indirect, in that it underpins the numbering scheme other Hillstone MIBs rely on to be unambiguously identified by management systems. Every other Hillstone-branded MIB (e.g., HILLSTONE-IF-MIB, HILLSTONE-POWER-MIB) depends on this SMI module for its enterprise OID prefix. It is present on every Hillstone firewall/security appliance as a foundational MIB loaded before any of the vendor's functional MIBs.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in HILLSTONE-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Hillstone A-Series E1700 (2024) — current next-generation firewall appliance for network edge protection

Monitoring Examples

This is a conformance/structural module rather than one exposing operational data, so there is no realistic monitoring scenario to describe: it defines OID arcs and naming conventions (the Hillstone enterprise root) that other Hillstone MIBs build upon, and contains no pollable status or performance objects itself.
