Category: LAN Management
Description: Manages MICOM Ethernet interface configuration and traffic statistics.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is MICOMETHER?
MICOMETHER is a MICOM proprietary MIB module defining Ethernet interface objects under the mcmEth branch of the micom-oscar enterprise tree, but in this source file every object it defines — the mcmEthCntrZeroTable and its child objects mcmEthCntrZeroPort, mcmEthStatsGrpCounterZero, and mcmEthCollStatsGrpCounterZero — is marked STATUS obsolete, retained only for backward compatibility with MICOM software releases prior to release 3.0. Each object's DESCRIPTION explicitly states it was obsoleted as of release 3.0 and is included solely so older management stations can still compile the MIB; the functional purpose of the table was to let an operator write a reset(1) value to zero out a port's Ethernet statistics-group or collision statistics-group counters. Because the whole module is obsolete, it does not represent MICOM's current Ethernet monitoring/configuration model — later MICOM releases moved counter-reset functionality elsewhere — and it depends on the MICOM-OSCAR-MIB module for its enterprise OID root. It would only be relevant when managing legacy MICOM OSCAR-series equipment still running pre-3.0 software; administrators can download the MICOMETHER file to load it into their MIB browser to support such legacy devices.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in MICOMETHER. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- MICOM OSCAR-series Ethernet equipment (legacy, pre-release-3.0 software only)
Monitoring Examples
An operator managing a legacy pre-3.0 MICOM device writes reset(1) to mcmEthStatsGrpCounterZero for a given mcmEthCntrZeroPort entry to clear that port's accumulated Ethernet statistics; on any device running release 3.0 or later this entire table is obsolete and no longer has any effect, since counter-reset moved to a different mechanism.
What Can Be Monitored
- per-port Ethernet statistics-group counter reset (obsolete)
- per-port collision statistics-group counter reset (obsolete)
