Category: Network Interfaces, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB for E1 interface configuration and monitoring including framing, line coding, and performance counters.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-E1-MIB?

H3C-E1-MIB is an H3C private-enterprise MIB providing E1 (2.048 Mbit/s digital telecom) interface information not covered by the standard RFC 1213 and RFC 2233 interface MIBs, targeting WAN/telecom interface modules on H3C routers. It exposes detailed per-interface physical-layer error and quality counters: CRC errors, framing errors, alignment errors, runt and giant frame errors, overruns, dribble errors, aborted sequence errors, and buffer-allocation failures. Its monitoring emphasis is squarely on hardware health: these counters let an operator detect a degrading E1 line, cabling fault, clocking mismatch, or framing misconfiguration well before the circuit fails outright. It explicitly states a complementary dependency on the standard IF-MIB (RFC 2233) and legacy MIB-II interfaces group (RFC 1213), which lack this E1-specific error detail. Deployment context is H3C routers with E1 WAN interface modules used for leased-line or telecom trunk connectivity in enterprise and carrier access networks, where operators typically use an H3C-E1-MIB MIB Browser to inspect these E1 error counters directly.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-E1-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C router/switch with E1 WAN interface module

Monitoring Examples

An administrator polls e1InterfaceStatusTable/e1InterfaceStatusEntry to retrieve e1InterfaceInCrcErrs, e1InterfaceInFramingErrs, and e1InterfaceInAlignErrs for each E1 port. A steadily rising e1InterfaceInCrcErrs or e1InterfaceInFramingErrs count across successive polls signals a degrading physical E1 circuit or a clock-source mismatch, while a growing e1InterfaceInNoBufferErrs or e1InterfaceInOverRunsErrs count suggests the router is dropping frames due to buffer exhaustion under load.

What Can Be Monitored

  • E1 CRC errors
  • E1 framing errors
  • E1 alignment errors
  • runt/giant frame errors
  • buffer overrun / no-buffer errors
  • aborted sequence errors

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using e1InterfaceInErrs OID:

Select an H3C router/switch with E1 WAN interface module as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type e1InterfaceInErrs into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The total number of error received on this interface. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases between polls, since a rising count of errors, failures, or discards often points to a real underlying problem. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
