Category: Protocol: DHCP, Vendor: H3C/HH3C

Description: H3C MIB version 2 for DHCP snooping, monitoring DHCP binding tables and filtering unauthorized DHCP traffic.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-DHCP-SNOOP2-MIB?

This is an H3C vendor MIB, version 2 of their DHCP Snooping management module, used to configure and monitor the DHCP snooping security feature that filters unauthorized/rogue DHCP server traffic and builds a trusted IP-to-MAC-to-VLAN binding database. It exposes configuration data (enable state, binding database name, refresh interval), operational counters (packets sent/received/dropped), and the DHCP snooping binding table itself with per-entry IP address and VLAN information. It is useful for monitoring the software-level security status of the switch's DHCP snooping feature — rising h3cDhcpSnoop2PktDropNum indicates DHCP packets being blocked from untrusted ports (potentially a rogue DHCP server or a legitimate misconfigured trunk), while the binding table lets an administrator verify a specific client's lease is correctly tracked. This is a self-contained H3C proprietary security MIB, though it would typically be deployed alongside H3C's VLAN and interface MIBs since bindings are indexed by VLAN. It is typically deployed on H3C switches in enterprise/campus access-layer networks where DHCP snooping is enabled to prevent rogue DHCP servers and IP spoofing. Engineers can download the H3C-DHCP-SNOOP2-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-DHCP-SNOOP2-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C switch (access layer)

Monitoring Examples

An administrator would poll h3cDhcpSnoop2Enabled to confirm the feature is active and check h3cDhcpSnoop2PktDropNum against h3cDhcpSnoop2PktRcvNum to gauge what fraction of DHCP traffic is being filtered as untrusted; walking h3cDhcpSnoop2BindTable/h3cDhcpSnoop2BindEntry and reading h3cDhcpSnoop2BindIpAddr with h3cDhcpSnoop2BindVlanId confirms a specific client's DHCP-assigned IP is correctly bound to its VLAN, and a missing expected binding would indicate that client's DHCP request was dropped or spoofed.

What Can Be Monitored

  • DHCP snooping enable state
  • DHCP packets sent/received/dropped counters
  • DHCP binding table (IP-to-VLAN)
  • binding database refresh interval
