Description: H3C MIB for Bandwidth Policy Accounting (BPA) tracking bandwidth usage and policy enforcement per subscriber.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is H3C-BPA-MIB?

H3C-BPA-MIB is an H3C-specific module that, despite its common "Bandwidth Policy Accounting" label, is documented in its MODULE-IDENTITY as managing BGP Policy Accounting — counting IP packets that match a user-defined BGP routing policy. It exposes a configuration table (direction, source-or-destination classification, row status) that defines which policies to account, and a statistics table tracking per-traffic-type packet and octet counters. As a monitoring tool it surfaces traffic-engineering/billing-oriented performance counters — inbound/outbound packet and byte counts per policy class — rather than hardware health, letting an operator see how much traffic flows through each configured BGP policy bucket. It depends conceptually on BGP routing policy configuration elsewhere on the device (policies must exist before they can be accounted) but defines no direct MIB import dependency beyond standard SNMP conventions. It is typically deployed on H3C core/edge routers running BGP where operators need per-policy traffic accounting for capacity planning or interconnect billing. Engineers can download the H3C-BPA-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in H3C-BPA-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C routers
  • H3C BGP-capable edge/core devices

Monitoring Examples

Polling h3cBpaStatTable / h3cBpaStatEntry indexed by h3cBpaTrafficIndex and h3cBpaTrafficType reveals h3cBpaInPacketCount, h3cBpaInOctetCount, and h3cBpaOutPacketCount for each accounted traffic class. An admin cross-references these counters against h3cBpaCfgTable entries (h3cBpaDirection, h3cBpaSrcOrDest) to confirm which BGP-policy-classified flows are consuming the most bandwidth. A sudden counter reset or a flat-lined h3cBpaInOctetCount can indicate the accounting policy stopped matching traffic, e.g. after a routing change.

What Can Be Monitored

  • per-policy inbound/outbound packet counts
  • per-policy octet counts
  • accounted traffic direction
  • accounted traffic type
  • BGP policy accounting configuration status

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h3cBpaInPacketCount OID:

Select an H3C router (BGP Policy Accounting) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h3cBpaInPacketCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. The total number of received packets with the specified traffic type and traffic index. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
