Description: GSC optical MIB for managing optical network equipment configuration and transceiver performance monitoring.

Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.

What Is GSC-OPT-MIB?

GSC-OPT-MIB, despite its filename, is a Codex/Motorola enterprise MIB (codex(449).cdxProductSpecific.cdx6500) for the Codex 6500 statistical multiplexer's GSC (poll-based station-controller) ports rather than an optical-transceiver MIB. Its cdx6500PPCTGSCPortTable, indexed by cdx6500GSCPCfgPortNumber, configures each GSC port's role and protocol timing: cdx6500GSCPCfgSubtype distinguishes a port acting as a terminal PAD (gscTpad) from one acting as a host PAD (gscHpad), cdx6500GSCPCfgClockSpeed and cdx6500GSCPCfgNumStations set line speed and attached-station count, and a large set of timers — cdx6500GSCPCfgMinPollPeriod, cdx6500GSCPCfgPollRespTimer, cdx6500GSCPCfgAckTimeOut, cdx6500GSCPCfgInterCharTimeOut, cdx6500GSCPCfgBroadcastHoldTimeOut, cdx6500GSCPCfgSolicitedTimeOut, cdx6500GSCPCfgIdleDiscTimeOut, and cdx6500GSCPCfgAutocallRetryTimeOut — tune the polling protocol between the multiplexer and its attached terminals. This is fundamentally a serial polling-protocol configuration MIB: monitoring it reveals how a GSC port is provisioned and how aggressively it polls attached devices, which matters when diagnosing dropped or slow-to-respond terminal sessions. It depends only on RFC1155-SMI and RFC-1212 base types, consistent with its early-1990s SNMPv1 origin. Engineers supporting legacy Codex 6500 multiplexers can locate a GSC-OPT-MIB download to inspect and tune these per-port polling parameters.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GSC-OPT-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • Codex (Motorola) 6500 statistical multiplexer, GSC port module

Monitoring Examples

An operator polls cdx6500GSCPCfgNumStations and cdx6500GSCPCfgPollRespTimer for a GSC port to confirm the configured station count matches the physically attached terminals and that the poll-response timeout is appropriate for the line speed; terminals repeatedly timing out despite a generous cdx6500GSCPCfgAckTimeOut would point to a wiring or terminal-configuration problem on that port.

What Can Be Monitored

  • GSC port subtype (terminal vs. host PAD)
  • configured clock speed and station count
  • poll period and poll-response timers
  • acknowledgment and inter-character timeouts
  • broadcast-hold and idle-disconnect timers
  • autocall retry configuration
