Category: Optical and WDM, Vendor: H3C/HH3C
Description: Monitors IEEE 802.3ah EPON ONU registration, optical power levels, and MPCP statistics on H3C devices.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-DOT3-EFM-EPON-MIB?
This is a joint 3Com/Huawei (H3C) vendor MIB implementing IEEE 802.3ah Ethernet in the First Mile (EFM) Multi-Point Control Protocol (MPCP) management for EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) deployments, used to manage optical network units (ONUs) on H3C access switches/OLTs. Per its stated purpose it would expose EPON ONU registration state, optical signal/power levels, and MPCP protocol statistics, though no sample objects were available in this batch to ground specific object names. Its monitoring value is hardware/link status oriented: tracking whether ONUs are registered and online, optical power levels indicating fiber degradation, and MPCP frame statistics that reveal PON link instability. It explicitly builds on the IEEE 802.3ah standard (referenced directly in the module description) for its data model. It's typically deployed in fiber-access (FTTH/FTTB) network operator environments using H3C EPON equipment managed through the A3COM-HUAWEI-DOT3-EFM-EPON-MIB MIB.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-DOT3-EFM-EPON-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- H3C (3Com/Huawei) EPON OLT/ONU access equipment
Monitoring Examples
No object list was available in the source for this MIB, so concrete object-level polling detail cannot be verified against real names; based on the module description, such a MIB would typically be polled for per-ONU registration status and per-port optical power/MPCP counters to detect a failing or unregistered ONU on the PON.
