Description: Configures and monitors Layer 2 port security MAC address limits on GBN switches.
Start monitoring vendor-neutral, standards-based MIB, any SNMPv3-capable network device (SNMP engine identity/boot/clock status) with a free 30-day trial of IPNetwork Monitor. Import MIBs, browse SNMP OIDs, create custom SNMP monitors, configure alerts, and monitor any SNMP-enabled network device from a single console.
What Is GBNL2PortSecurity-MIB?
GBNL2PortSecurity-MIB is a GBN enterprise MIB for configuring and monitoring Layer 2 port security on GBN switches, restricting the number and identity of MAC addresses permitted on a port. Based on the available data it centers on a notification object, portSecurityNotifications, used to alert when port security violations occur, alongside underlying per-port MAC limit configuration typical of port-security features. Its primary monitoring value is fault/security-event detection: administrators watch for port security violation traps indicating an unauthorized device attempting to connect, which can signal a rogue device or MAC-flooding attack attempt. It is a vendor-private module and, beyond standard SNMP notification conventions, does not appear to depend on other standard MIBs. It is deployed on GBN-branded enterprise Ethernet switches where port-level access control is enforced, making GBNL2PortSecurity-MIB SNMP monitoring a practical way to catch unauthorized device connections in near real time.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in GBNL2PortSecurity-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- GBN enterprise Ethernet switch
Monitoring Examples
An admin configures a subscription to portSecurityNotifications so that when a port exceeds its allowed MAC address count or an unrecognized MAC connects, an SNMP trap fires immediately. This lets security teams detect unauthorized device connections or potential MAC-spoofing attacks on access ports in near real time, without needing to poll status continuously.
What Can Be Monitored
- port security violation notifications
- unauthorized MAC address connection events
